Race Mode
Race three AI typists at fixed speed ranges and track your live WPM, accuracy and position - not real-time human multiplayer.
Race Mode pits you against three AI typists racing the same real-world passage at the same time. This is player-versus-AI, not live multiplayer against other people - there is no matchmaking, no waiting room, and no chat, so a race is available instantly whenever you want one.
The three opponents
The same three named bots race with you every time, each holding a fixed speed range rather than reacting to how you are doing:
- SlowStarter - 25-40 WPM
- SteadyTyper - 45-65 WPM
- SpeedDemon - 70-90 WPM
How a race works
- Open the Race tab
- Review the three opponents and their speed ranges
- Select Start Race
- Type the passage shown - your lane and the three AI lanes advance as everyone types
- Live stats show your WPM, Accuracy and Position during the race
Live stats during a race
While racing, Typing Master shows your WPM, Accuracy and Position in real time, so you can see whether you are ahead of or behind each bot as the passage progresses - the same underlying measurement as a standard Timed test, just displayed as a competition instead of a countdown.
Starting and restarting
Click Start Race to begin. Press Tab at any time to start a new race, or Esc to abort the current one - useful if an early mistake means you would rather restart cleanly than finish a race you know is off to a bad start.
Tips
If you are new to Race Mode, try beating SlowStarter first before aiming for SteadyTyper or SpeedDemon - the bots race at fixed WPM ranges, so a race is a good way to gauge your speed against a concrete target instead of just a number on a timer. See Test Modes & Settings for the Test tab's own timed tests if you would rather measure your WPM without racing anyone, or Leaderboard and Certificate for where your race results show up afterward.
